(Un)dress for Success! – Egick swimwear by Yoav Cohen
Pride Week has officially started in Tel Aviv, and the parade is so soon, we need to start thinking what we’re going to wear… on not wear! This week I’m introducing Yoav Cohen, designer of Egick swimwear. If you fancy an item – not the boys, the trunks -, go for it: Yoav is selling his designs at the Expo TLV – starting today at Dizengoff Center.
The success story stated with Yoav and his ex boyfriend Kirill Makarov wanting to create an iconic swimwear brand for guys – such as Gottex for girls. The first collection was launched in 2013, and it became a huge success, especially among gay men.
Yoav was a student of Israel’s prestigious Shenkar design school, but his love for fashion started earlier. “When I was 16 my neighbor asked me to draw a dress for her, and she took it to a sawing woman, that was my first design.”
He still designs women’s wear, mainly wedding gowns – “as ladies are more daring in combining fabrics and colors.” – he says. Seems like these guys in his latest look book has no problem being “daring” as well…
“I wanted models with exotic looks, but I didn’t go to a model agency – I found them at gym, they are real people who love the camera, and the camera loves them back.” – says Yoav.
